The Chief of Police, Major General Jose Antonio Polanco Gomez, said that the investigation into the death of a member of the Presidential Guards during a confused incident is still under way. The man died at the hands of a Police patrol in the Don Bosco sector of the capital. When asked about the pistol that appears next to the body of an Army private and alleged assailant in the last photographs but not in the first photographs of the crime scene, the Chief said that if anyone were found to have incorrectly handled the crime scene they would be punished.
Allegedly, and according to El Nuevo Diario, the Army private had assaulted a former military officer, Julio Cesar Morales Rosa, and taken his sidearm. The shootout between the victim, Freddy Saul Felix and the police patrol took place on Galvan Street while President Leonel Fernandez was heading towards the Presidential Palace along Doctor Delgado Street, a short distance away.
