The chief of the National Police, Jose Antonio Polanco Gomez, has announced that he planned to mobilize some 13,000 police agents to patrol the streets of the major cities in response to the demonstrations that have been called for by the FALPO and other organizations. All 13 regional headquarters have been placed on alert, and men have been posted at vulnerable points, such as bridges, gasoline stations and propane filling stations. According to El Nuevo Diario, the chief asked the organizers of the demonstrations to respect the rules and private and public property. The Falpo has announced a series of protests that will begin today with a halt to transportation in the northeast and a picket at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Other demonstrations are planned for the weekend in other cities around the country.

The Fenatrano transport union has announced fare increases of RD$5, RD$10 and RD$15 for the routes it services in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo. Leader Juan Hubieres said that his union would join the FALPO demonstrations.
