Owners of several of the leading urban and inter-urban transport companies have again visited the Presidential Palace to express their disagreement with several aspects of a bill that seeks to benefit select transporter union members with houses, vehicles and other perks. They believe that these do not benefit citizens in general in any way. Representatives of the Union de Propietarios de Autobuses, Caribe Tours, Metro, Transporte Begano, Transporte Espinal and other transporters said that when they met with President Leonel Fernandez at the Presidential Palace two weeks ago they sought solutions to transport problems, not personal benefits.

Freddy Mendez, president of the Union of Propietarios de Autobuses and Paul Guerrero, vice president of Caribe Tours said that this type of agreement harms the common good. The businessmen met with Presidency Minister Cesar Pina Toribio and Ignacio Ditren, director of the Oficina Metropolitana de Servicios de Autobuses (OMSA) that operates a government bus network. Guerrero insisted that solutions have to be found, not perks. He said the companies have always covered their investments to purchase their vehicles.
