In its second year, the Major League Baseball-Dominican Development Alliance held an event attended by Dominican MLB players, US Embassy staff, the participating civic organizations and community groups. The Alliance brings together the USAID, Batey Relief Alliance (BRA), Esperanza International, IDDI, Plan International DR and Save the Children (FUDECO) to carry out community projects. Also attending was Sports Minister Felipe Payano. The Alliance has two objectives: to improve the quality of life in Dominican communities and promote relations with Major League teams the players and their followers in those communities. MLB teams have training academies in small communities nationwide and the outreach programs seek spill-off effects of their work. Attending the event were David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez and his wife Carolina Cruz, Ubaldo Jimenez, Aramis Ramirez, Robinson Cano, Rafael Soriano, Ervin Santana, Miguel Batista and Emilio Bonifacio, among others. www.mlb-dda.org/en (http://www.mlb-dda.org/en)
