The latest Dominican-made comedy film, Lotoman, starring Raymond Pozo and Miguel Cespedes has been seen by 150,000 moviegoers in its first week. The film is now expected to be seen by over half a million viewers in the DR. The new comedy did not receive good reviews from local critics, but feedback from viewers has been different and has pushed sales. The film, which opened at theaters nationwide on Thursday, was directed by Archie Lopez, who attributed its success to the popularity of the two comedians. Lopez said that response has been so overwhelming that 12 movie halls were added to the original opening halls. He said the film could now be seen at 40 halls nationwide. Lotoman tells the story of two men from humble backgrounds who win a RD$100,000 lottery prize and how it affects their lives. As reported in El Caribe, this is Lopez's most successful film so far. His earlier films are Cristiano de la secreta (375,000 viewers) and Mi Novia esta de madre (264,000 tickets sold).
