Now in its eighth version, the Santo Domingo Music Festival opens at the National Theater on 2 March with a 10-day program of events. The festival, which is organized by renowned French orchestra conductor and pianist, maestro Phillippe Entremont, has taken place every two years since 1995. This year's program includes Michel Camilo, with the American premiere of Tenerife (Concert No. 2 for piano and orchestra), violinist Sarah Chang, pianists Igor Tchetuev and Gen Tomuro. The American dance company, Trey McIntyre Project from the US will add an evening of dance. Opera singers that are on the program are soprano Sarah Jane McMahon, mezzo-soprano Nora Gubish, tenor Diego Torre and baritone Michael Todd Simpson for an evening dedicated to opera with the soloists from opera houses in Washington and Los Angeles. The festival orchestra includes 105 musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra, together with musicians from Europe and the United States. In addition to Entremont, also directing the festival and orchestra are Jose Antonio Molina and Ramon Tebar from Spain.
