During his visit to Mumbai, President Leonel Fernandez toured Film City, one of the main Indian movie studios, which employs million people and produces around 1,000 films a year. The company is said to be responsible for 2% of India's GDP, as reported on the Presidency website. Fernandez was received by Film City manager Suprabha Agarwal. The Presidency reports that they discussed the possibility of filmmakers from India training Dominican film instructors. President Fernandez is a strong supporter of the DR's incipient film industry.

In Mumbai, he also met with A. K. Madhavan, president of Crest Animation Studios, Hemen Doshi, COO Digital Media Imaging (the media outsourcing arm of Reliance MediaWorks), other major film producers in India.

President Fernandez was accompanied by Economy & Planning Minister Temistocles Montas, and by Ambassador Hans Dannenberg, who is coordinating the President's visit to India. The President was also accompanied by several Dominican business leaders including Miguel Lama, Manuel Estrella, Juan Ramon Gomez Diaz, Eduardo Bogaert, Claudia Defillo, Aquiles Bermudez and Juan Oliver Mota Mota, reported the Presidency.

Next on his agenda is a talk at the Chamber of Indian Industries and a visit to the Tata installations, as well as to the Indian export agency, Eximbank. On 1 February, President Fernandez will speak at the Summit of the Southern India Federation of Indian Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises and will visit the Indian Institute of Management.
