The Multimodal Caucedo Port resumed its operations on Sunday after an oil spill on Friday. While operations were affected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the rapid salvaging work prevented the spill from affecting Boca Chica and Andres beach sands, as reported in Hoy. The port had been paralyzed after a petroleum spill from a Panamanian registered cargo ship. The spill affected the entrance to the port area, preventing the entrance and departure of ships.

The Ministry of Environment said that 500 liters of petroleum had been absorbed but crews continued to work. The clean-up work will continue this week and crews are working day and night.

El Dia reported that the petroleum was taken to a tanker for transporting to Nizao where it will be burned at the Incineradora Dominicana.

A separate area was made available for the entrance and departure of ships.

News reports say that the rapid intervention prevented marine life in the area from being affected.

The ship MSC Ronit, registry number 8905878, is consigned to Maritima Dominicana and MSC Dominicana. Reportedly, a pipe broke causing the accident.
