The Police have ordered its entire contingent to be replaced in Licey al Medio in the province of Santiago. The move came in response to demands from the community for increased crime control in the area. Nonetheless, five robberies were reported in 24 hours following the change of staff.
Business representatives and farm owners had said they were ready to organize themselves in private patrols to control crime in the area because of the police force's inability to prevent robberies.
