Diario Libre reports today that according to anthropologist Tahira Vargas, young people are encouraged to seek ways to get rich quick, through crime or corruption. Recent statistics from the Prosecutor General Office show that of 2,500 violent deaths in 2010, most were young people aged 18 to 34 years. Sociologist Celedonio Jimenez says that impunity is a factor that has promoted crime in the DR. He mentioned the bad example set by the government. "What happens in our Police and Armed Forces in terms of participation in crime and drug trafficking is a matter of high concern and are factors that promote crime in our society," said Jimenez.
