Former President Hipolito Mejia has formally registered his intention to participate in the PRD primary on 6 March. He becomes the second PRD politician to do so after Miguel Vargas Maldonado registered on 28 January. The former President can now run again for President after President Leonel Fernandez pushed through a modification of the Constitution that eliminated the clause banning any candidate who had been re-elected twice or sought re-election from running for President again.
