President Leonel Fernandez was the guest of honor at yesterday's India MSME Summit in Bangalore, organized by the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME). The event also had the support of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, the Harnataka Udyog Mitra government, and the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). Also speaking at the event were Virbhadra Singh, Honorable Cabinet Minister, Ministry of MSME, Government of India and B.S. Yeddyurappa, Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka, and Murugesh R Nirani, Honorable Minister, Large & Medium Industries, Government of Karnataka. The event took place at the Leela Palace Kempinsky in Bangalore. Bangalore is regarded as India's Silicon Valley.
President Leonel Fernandez offered the DR as a gateway for India to US, European markets and Latin American markets. President Fernandez invited Indian businesses to invest in high technology areas, mainly to develop software and hardware in his country. He presented the advantages of the Santo Domingo Cyberpark. Fernandez said that the DR offers preferential access to more than 878 million consumers in the world through commercial agreements with favorable conditions to offer good advantages to companies. On Tuesday, Fernandez met with representatives of some 250 micro, small and medium-sized Indian companies to promote the DR.
He attended the event with First Lady Margarita Cedeno, Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, Economy Minister Temistocles Montas and event coordinator Ambassador Hans Dannenberg for the Dominican Republic. Also attending the conference from the Dominican Republic were business leaders Miguel Lama, Aquiles Bermudez, Manuel Estrella, Eduardo Bogaert, Claudia Defillo, Juan Ramon Gomez Diaz, Manuel Tavares, Kai Schoenhals and Jordi Perez Marche.
On 2 February on the presidential agenda is at the Seminar on India - Dominican Republic: Trade and Investment Opportunities, sponsored by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FIICI). Other sponsors of the event are the Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at the Imperial Hotel in New Delhi.
The seminar seeks to explore potential for enhancing bilateral trade investment between India and the DR and to facilitate business collaborations and investment in diverse sectors such as steel, leather, fertilizers, IT, animation, pharmaceuticals and tourism.
