Senate approves Monte Grande Dam contract

After a brief discussion, the Senate approved the contract for the design, construction and financial negotiations of the multifaceted project for the Monte Grande Dam. The project includes the refurbishing and improvement of the dam at Sabana Yegua. Senate president Reinaldo Pared Perez said that there was an evident need to improve the development of the south west region. He told El Nuevo Diario reporters that the projects would provide 1,500 direct jobs, and perhaps as many as 12,500 new jobs in farming after the dams are built. The project is set up in three phases and said to cost US$354.3 million.
