In the buildup to 27 February, the date when the President traditionally announces his annual government reshuffle, rumors in the Presidential Palace are increasing.

The possible changes include involve the Ministry of Education and Public Works, as well as the Chief of the National Police. The problems with the school breakfast, with hundreds of public school students suffering food poisoning and the application of an integrated textbook are just some of the points that could move the President to replace the Minister of Education, Melanio Paredes. Josefina Pimentel, the current director of the National Institute for Professional Technical Training (Infotep) is one possible substitute for Paredes.

Diaz Rua, despite having done a good job at the Ministry of Public Works, and being one of the main PLD fundraisers, is also mentioned as one of the officials who could be changed on 27 February, on the grounds that he has been in the post for nearly four years.

Diario Libre says that the violence, police involvement in criminal acts, the murder of police Lieutenant Colonel Virgilio Casilla Minaya, and other issues, could lead to the removal of the Chief of the National Police, Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez. He is likely to be replaced by his deputy, General Victor Antonio Campusano Jimenez. Other officials who might be changed include the governors of Bonao and Dajabon, according to the newspaper.
