Dominican Republic has established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka. Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso signed the agreement with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in India, Prasal Kariyawansam during his visit to India as part of President Leonel Fernandez's delegation. Present at the signing were Dominican Ambassador to India Hans Dannenberg Castellanos and Sri Lankan minister counselor, Sam Pathiaran. The Sri Lankan embassy in Havana is likely to be concurrent to the DR, and the Dominican Embassy in India will cover Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is the world's leading tea producer and a major textile producer. As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Relations Sri Lanka is interested in developing tourism projects with the DR.
