The Ministry of Environment has announced its plans to open 20 eco-touristic circuits in the Greater Santo Domingo area. Jose Enrique Baez, director of the Ministry's National Plan Green Quisqueya told Hoy that the Ministry has recovered 24 important green areas and converted them into ecological parks and protected areas. He said that what many thought was a utopia, is now a reality and residents and visitors are now able to enjoy the city's lovely mangroves, among other natural attractions. He said that areas that could now be visited included Nigua, Haina, Paraiso del Caribe, Valle Encantado, Palacio de Engome, Manoguayabo, Los Alcarrizos, Pantoja, Los Guaricanos, Villa Mella, La Isabela, El Cachon de la Rubia, Laguna Dulce, San Luis, San Isidro, La Victoria, La Caleta and Los Tres Ojos.

The Ministry has already begun a RD$100 weekend circuit to visit the Aquarium, Tres Ojos and Cachon de la Rubia in Santo Domingo.

Baez says the routes will be of interest to cruise ship visitors to the city because in a short trip the tourists will be able to tour different types of forestry.
