The government is calling on the National Gasoline Retailers Association (ANADEGAS) to change tactics and discuss a solution to their complaints. Industry and Commerce Minister Jose Ramon Fadul said that this is not a good time to increase profit margins for fuel retailers, which is one of the demands being made by ANADEGAS. He said that the retailers are earning profits of RD$18 per gallon and that some of these benefits should go to consumers. Fadul rejected the use of strikes and marches. He said that Anadegas wanted to create pressure as the 27 February approaches, when Presidents in the DR traditionally make cabinet reshuffles. Fadul said that he did not think that the President would remove him from his post over the RD$2.50 additional profit that the gasoline retailers want and have not received. Anadegas, the largest fuel retailers association in the country, has threatened to shut down their operations to pressure for the increase.
