Education Minister Melanio Paredes is examining options for renewing the school breakfast program nationwide. Paredes told reporters from Diario Libre that although a date has not been set, any discussions should involve the parents. The government suspended the program only three days after it had resumed last week. Earlier, it had been suspended since November following a series of intoxications.
Paredes says that the contracts for supplying the school breakfasts should be allocated to companies that have not been involved in the food poisoning cases. He mentioned Parmalat and Fresca, in an interview in El Caribe.
In an interview with El Caribe, he mentioned the program would be resumed in areas in the border.
