The labor situation in the country will continue its downward spiral, according to the confidence index on "the perception of the condition of future work" prepared by the Santo Domingo Technological Institute (INTEC) business studies department. The index fell to 46.53 in December 2010. In 2009, the index was at 52.6. Hoy newspaper quotes the study, which indicated that 40.6% of the people questioned in the survey felt that the job market "would go down a lot", while only 26.5% felt that way in 2009. The only exception to the generally pessimistic outlook was in the east, where 37.9% responded that the job market would improve a "lot". Overall, the study showed a lower Consumer Confidence Index compared to 2009.
