The Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of the First Instance in La Altagracia province has sentenced two Venezuelan pilots and two crew members to 30-year jail terms. The four arrived in an aircraft with 59 kilograms of cocaine and landed at Punta Cana Airport. The pilots, Kenneth Mendez and Gustavo Martinez, as well as crew members Franklin Antonio Armada and his girlfriend Barbara Susana were found guilty of forming part of an international network dedicated to drug trafficking.

Judges Sagrario del Rio Castillo, Vicente Marte Jimenez and Aristedes Dalmiro Heredia accepted the arguments for a conviction made by prosecutor Lucas Perez and his deputies Daniel Roble Nivar and Pedro Nunez Jimenez. At the same time the judges imposed a RD$1 million fine on each of the defendants, ordered the seizure of the aircraft that brought in the drugs and the incineration of the drugs shipment that was brought into the country on 13 October 2009. The men will serve their time in jail in Higuey and the woman will be held in La Romana.
