President Leonel Fernandez will travel to San Jose, Costa Rica to attend the 10-12 March Conference on the Middle East. The event, "Latin American Alliance for Peace in the Middle East: The Role of Civil Society in Latin America" is organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development headed by President Fernandez and the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress headed by the former President, Nobel Prize laureate Oscar Arias of Costa Rica.
The forum is sponsored by the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (Flacso). Civil society representatives, foreign ministry officials, politicians, academics and members of Arab and Jewish communities in Latin America, the United States, Europe, Israel and Palestinian territories will be taking part. Funglode senior advisor Hasan Rahman said that this is the first time that such an important event to connect the Middle East with Central America is being held.
