Civil society and business organizations under the Citizen Action Program are calling for President Leonel Fernandez to make the selection of judges for the Supreme Court of Justice, the Constitutional Court and the Higher Electoral Court transparent and participative. The latter two are new institutions created by the 2010 Constitution. The business and civil society organizations recommend that the evaluation and selection process for the new judges should also be televised, as occurred in 1997 when the National Council of Magistracy was first created to renovate the justice system.
