Venezuelan Rafael Mauricio Verdeja Vargas, 45, became the most recent victim of violent crime in Santo Domingo yesterday. He was sitting outside at Avenida Sarasota in Bella Vista, in the Casa Mencia restaurant terrace of Hotel BQ (former Delta) when witnesses say two men on a motorcycle stopped in front of the restaurant, one got off and shot him. Diario Libre reports that the man had been accompanied by a woman who had left the table several minutes earlier. Waiter Isaias Silva was injured in a leg and taken to hospital. Diario Libre reports that Verdeja was in possession of a Venezuelan ID and driver's license.
