Dr. Jose Elias Zaiter Pou has been sentenced to a year in jail in the United States for conspiring to perform surgery to alter fingerprints. The court also ordered him to be deported to the DR at the end of his sentence, which was issued by US District Judge Douglas Woodlock.

Zaiter Pou admitted to offering his services to remove a portion of the fingerprint and then suture the tip back to create an unrecognizable print in a Boston hotel room. He was convicted of conspiring to conceal illegal aliens from detection by altering their fingerprints.

US District Attorney Carmen Ortiz said that Zaiter Pou pleaded guilty in a federal court in Boston following a government sting operation was taped in which he met with an informant in the Red Roof Inn in Woburn and agreed to the surgery for US$4,500.
