On Monday public transport users in Santo Domingo were met with an unannounced four-hour strike by Fenatrano (led by Juan Hubieres) and CNTU (led by Ramon Perez Figuereo) unions. The wildcat strike began at 6am and lasted through 10am, affecting students and workers in the National District and the Province of Santo Domingo. The transporters were protesting for a reduction in the price of fuel. The strike affected 80% of transport routes, as reported in El Caribe. Subsequently, fare hikes of RD$5 were announced by concho units under the CNTU.
