The Ministry of Environment and its Green Quisqueya Plan have planted more than 380,000 trees in the area of Tirou, Haiti. Brigades of tree planters in Haiti are employed to make sure that the trees are looked after and do not end up being cut down. The Dominican government is supplying pine tree, mango, tamarind and cashew tree saplings for the planting.

In Los Algodones, another border community, a brigade has been at work since 22 March 2010 and has planted 84,000 trees in Haitian farmlands, according to a press release from the Ministry of Environment. The brigade is directed by Haitian Tania Piet, working with Bellon Frances, Odalis Sanin, Andres Cherre, Alexis Torres and others.
