The Presidency reports that President Leonel Fernandez does not have any overseas travel on his short term agenda. News reports had leaked he would travel to Costa Rica and to Russia early this year. The Presidency press department says that instead a commission of the Global Foundation for Development and Democracy (Funglode) would represent the Dominican Republic at the International Forum for Peace in the Middle East coordinated by the foundation directed by Nobel Prize laureate Oscar Arias.
President Leonel Fernandez has been criticized at home for his frequent travels and public speaking on international issues compared to his marked lack of availability to openly discuss local issues.
