US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected in Santo Domingo to attend the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas Ministerial Meeting. Foreign ministers and trade ministers of 14 countries of the Americas are expected for the talks scheduled for Wednesday, 3 March and Thursday, 4 March. Pathways links Western Hemisphere countries committed to democracy and open markets in an initiative to promote inclusive growth, prosperity, and social justice.
It was launched in late 2008 to help countries learn from one another's experience through the exchange of best practices for spreading the benefits of economic growth broadly to all of regional citizens.
Pathways countries include Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay, and the United States. Participation is open to all democratic countries in the hemisphere committed to open markets.
The Inter-American Development Bank, the Organization of American States, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and other international organizations also contribute to Pathways.
