The Chamber of Deputies legislators could not agree on whether to authorize people over the age of 75 to be chosen as judges for the new Constitutional Court created by the 2010 Constitution. Judges need to retire from the Supreme Court of Justice at the age of 75, but legislators are divided over whether seniors can be elected to the new court. The PRD legislators say the 75-year old cut off age should also apply for the new court also. The ruling PLD legislators favor hiring judges over the age of 75, which would mean the judges leaving the Supreme Court of Justice could be hired for the Constitutional Court. The bill will be debated again when the legislator opens on 27 February.
