President Leonel Fernandez met with former French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin and former Spanish foreign minister Carlos Westendorp at the Presidential Palace yesterday. They discussed the situation in Haiti, where the two had visited days earlier. Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said that Jospin and Westerndorp had met with the executives of the Interim Commission for the Reconstruction of Haiti that is headed by former US President Bill Clinton. As reported by the Presidency, the visitors said they were optimistic about prospects for Haiti and expected that the second round of the Haiti elections would not be as traumatic as the first. Their meeting with President Fernandez lasted over an hour. However, neither Jospin nor Westendorp were available for comments to the press, as reported in Hoy.
