The Central Bank says that inflation in January was 1.24% compared to December 2010. According to the Central Bank the Consumer Price Index, now utilizing a new calculation base, showed a variation of 1.24% compared to December 2010. On a 12-month base, inflation was 6.17%, less than the 6.85% inflation reported for January 2010. The expanded base of goods and services used to calculate the Consumer Price Index covers 305 goods and services that represent 90% of the common spending of Dominican households.
The announcement comes in a month when fuel prices have gone up almost every week.
