The Santiago Prosecutors Office has named US citizen John Matthew as the owner of the Dominican Republic Media Ventures that reportedly operated a prostitution ring recruiting university students in Santiago. A Colombian woman, named Aira Evelin Suarez Ruiz will also be prosecuted in the case, according to news reports. The prosecutors dismantled what is being described as "a virtual prostitution operation" and arrested 22 in the case, according to press reports. The ring operated from an office at Av. Las Carreras.
Last month, El Nacional newspaper denounced the effort to recruit the students for the work offering wages up to RD$75,000 a month. The High Tech Crimes (ICAT) Division of the Police and the National Department of Drug Control participated in the investigation of the ring.
