President Leonel Fernandez lunched yesterday with former Presidents George H. Bush, George W. Bush (USA), Alvaro Uribe (Colombia) and Martin Torrijos (Panama) and the former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar. The lunch was held at the Quinta Serenisima in Casa de Campo, owned by Venezuelan businessman Gustavo Cisneros. The nation's newspapers said that although the official topics of discussion were not released, it was described as a cordial meeting where the former heads of government talked about several events in which they had taken part and some issues related to world politics.

Since last weekend, the two Bush families, Torrijos, Aznar and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney have been staying at Casa de Campo where the meeting with President Fernandez took place under normal circumstances, with no disruption that might affect the other guests at the hotel. According to news reports, former US ambassador Hans Hertell was also at the meeting.

It was made clear that the former heads of state, despite their meeting with President Fernandez, are enjoying a family vacation more than anything else. That is why there has not been any official visit or future strategy related to this visit. Nonetheless, it was understood that the subjects discussed included an invitation to visit Texas that George W. H. Bush had made to President Fernandez during a previous visit.
