Properties valued at more than RD$150 million confiscated from convicted drug trafficker Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo will be auctioned by the Oficina de Custodia y Administracion de Bienes Incautados y Decomisados (OCABID), a government office in charge of custody and management of confiscated assets. Office director Laureano Guerrero said they would be sold through the Direccion de Bienes Nacionales (National Assets Department). The properties include Hacienda Elizabeth, a model dairy farm that is in ruins and at least six apartments worth more than RD$7 million each. El Dia reporters say that the dairy farm has been abandoned and the equipment and cattle are no longer there. Paulino Castillo was arrested in 2004 after a joint US DEA - DNCD operation detected 1,387 kilos of cocaine intended for export. He was extradited to the United States and tried in a NY court.

El Dia reports that Torre Atiemar, property of Spanish Arturo del Tiempo, arrested in Spain and accused of drug trafficking and asset laundering in the DR will also be auctioned. The building is valued at US$34.7 million and has 36 apartments.
