The District Attorney in San Juan de la Maguana has secured 78 convictions in 97 cases brought before the courts in his jurisdiction. These cases include drug busts, homicides, robberies and swindles. Pedro Antonio Mateo Ibert, the local District Attorney, said that the cases were "well prepared and based on law and objectivity". Of the 119 cases presented, the judges found merit in 97. The other cases, stressed Mateo Ibert, were dealt with by the Justice Department or other actions were taken. The jurist said that 31 of the cases were for drug offenses, 22 were homicides, 14 were for robberies, and the others were for crimes involving commercial law, fraud, illegal weapons and fighting, and two were for arson.
