Fernandez wants road contracts back

President Leonel Fernandez is asking Congress to return two construction contracts that had been sent to the legislature for approval. His request involves the contracts for the Bavaro-Sabana de la Mar and El Rio-Jarabacoa highways. The reason given by the President is that the state has not secured sufficient financing for these projects. In his request, the President said that as soon as financing was obtained the projects would be returned to Congress for approval. The contract for the construction of the highway that will link Sabana de la Mar and Bavaro also includes a port facility in the city. The contract for the El Rio to Jarabacoa road was signed with the Brazilian Odebrecht construction company.
