So far, according to a report in Listin Diario, the government has spent a staggering sum of RD$3.51 billion on the second line of the Santo Domingo Metro system. The newspaper says that over RD$303 million was spent on Station 7 alone, and some RD$33.8 million on Station 8. Station 9 at Dr. Defillo has cost RD$44.4 million so far. And these are the Transport Reorganization Office's (Opret) own figures.

A paid advertisement in yesterday's papers provided a look at where all the money has gone.

Over RD$240 million has been spent on advisors, studies, designs, plans, calculations and environmental impact statements.

More than RD$200 million has been devoted to expropriations and compensation paid to people affected by the new subway route.

The tunnel excavations have cost over RD$800 million, and nearly RD$30 million has been spent on spare parts and repairs of the special equipment.

The trench for the other tunnel has cost more than RD$680 million, and the connection between the two lines alone has cost Opret more than RD$235 million so far.

A total of RD$3,511,932,850 so far has been spent on the Metro project.
