Today's Listin Diario reports the findings of a border market poll commissioned by the Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD). According to the poll, there are 14 bi-national market points on the border with Haiti. These are Dajabon (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday), Restauracion (Thursday, Friday), El Corozo (Monday, Thursday), Tiroly (Tuesday, Saturday), Guayayayuco (Wednesday), Los Cacaos (Monday, Friday), Banica (Thursday, Sunday), Hato Viejo (Thursday, Sunday), Comendador (Monday, Friday), Hondo Valle (Sunday), Canada Miguel (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), El Cacique (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), Sabana Real (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), Jimani-Malpaso (Monday, Thursday) and Pedernales (Monday, Friday). The most important market takes place in Dajabon. According to the report 5,221 traders take part regularly, of whom 51.1% are Haitians and 48.23% Dominicans. 63.51% of the vendors are women. An estimated 181,707 people attend the markets, of whom 95,055 are Dominicans (52.3%) and 86,652 are Haitians or 47.7%. The best selling products are used clothing, shoes, rice, coffee and electric appliances. The Haitians purchase rice, clothing, shoes, coffee and electrical appliances. 65% of the Dominicans and 78% of Haitians who purchase used clothing do so for resale.
