The Deputy Attorney General for the Electricity System (PGASE), judge Moises Ferrer reported yesterday on a joint operation between the EDE-Este and the Attorney General that netted a 37.5 KVA transformer and dismantled a clandestine electricity distribution system in the Los Restauradores section of Villa Mella. Ferrer said that prosecutor Yaneth Burgos seized the transformer from a bakery, Panificadora Yerika, on the Old Villa Mella Highway. Army personnel and Ede-Este engineers also took part in the operation.

The engineers estimated that the bakers would have been using 10,000 kw/h per month. Once the Ede-Este and PGASE investigators complete their work, they will turn the case over to the Superintendent of Electricity to determine the amount of energy that was stolen.

Although the amount of the current electricity bills was not revealed, El Nuevo Diario did say that the bakers had two air conditioners, two 15- and 12-cubic foot freezers and a 39- cubic foot walk-in freezer, two exhibition refrigerators, three computers and five 5-hp electrical engines along with other equipment.
