The Centro Economico del Cibao, a respected Santiago polling company, says that a poll taken on 18-20 February shows former President Hipolito Mejia with a lead over fellow PRD presidential candidacy hopeful Miguel Vargas 61.5% to 37.7% in the preferences of PRD voters.
CEC president Leonardo Aguilera announced the findings at a press conference yesterday. He was accompanied by Hipolito Mejia's running mate Luis Abinader. The poll was contracted by the Mejia campaign.
Aguilera said 1,400 people were polled from 18-20 February and the survey has an error margin of 2.6%.
In Greater Santo Domingo, the country's most important voting area, Mejia obtained 60.3% preference to 39.1% of Vargas. In the north, Mejia received 62.8% of the vote and Vargas 36.1%. In the south, 56.2% preferred Mejia and 43.8% Vargas. In the east, 70.1%

Mejia Vargas Maldonado's campaign team counteracted, publishing results of the November 2010 Gallup-Hoy poll had showed that Miguel Vargas Maldonado enjoys a 52%-40% advantage over Mejia within the PRD and a 44 to 30% advantage in the general population.
