The Dominican government has requested the extradition of a Spanish-Venezuelan citizen, Carlos Guerrero Costas, allegedly involved in a RD$1.5 billion tax swindle in the DR. Guerrero Costas was detained in Venezuela on an Interpol warrant, according to Roberto Rodriguez the legal counsel for the Department of Taxes (DGII). Guerrero Costas is president of Atlas Marine Caribbean, Inc, a company that allegedly disguised a huge amount of tax receipts in order to receive the benefits of the returned funds. Rodriguez said that Guerrero Costas was the only one of the eight accused who was not in jail.
According to Listin Diario and Diario Libre, the businessman had been declared a fugitive and in contempt of court by magistrates in the National District.
