While a November 2010 Gallup-Hoy poll showed PRD's 2008 presidential candidate Miguel Vargas Maldonado leading against former President Hipolito Mejia, the February follow-up survey tells a markedly different story. Miguel Vargas had reported that a November 2010 poll showed he had a 52%-40% advantage over Mejia within the PRD and a 44 to 30% advantage in the general population.

In the Santo Domingo metropolitan area province, nevertheless, Vargas led slightly with 48% to Mejia's 47.5%. 4.5% were undecided. In the equally important voting area of the north, 58% favored Mejia and 35.5% Vargas.

Moreover, of the people who said they were PLD followers, 64.3% said they favored Medina, 13.6% Cedeno, 6.7% Alburquerque, 5.8% Dominguez and 5.1% Perez.

For the PRSC, the poll showed that Amable Aristy leads with 51.8%, followed by Carlos Morales Troncoso with 22.4%, Victor Bisono with 8.2% and Federico Antun Batlle with 4.1%. Of those who said they were PRSC followers, 60.6% favored Aristy, 14% Morales, 11.6% Bisono and 9.3% Antun.
