The DR's first "community college," the Instituto Tecnologico Comunitario is expected to open in time for the fall semester in San Luis, in eastern Santo Domingo. The college will offer mainly vocational training courses, with two-year programs in technology, hotels and tourism, visual arts, health sciences and vehicle mechanics. The college is being built by the Office of Supervisory Engineers of Public Works) OISOE) whose director Luis Sifres says work is progressing very well. The college will cater for more than 15,000 students. Daytona Community College in Florida is advising on the college programs.
