Frank Rodriguez, director of the government department of dams, Instituto Nacional de Recursos Hydraulicos (INDRHI) reports that the heavy rains that have fallen recently have come as welcome news for the dams that supply drinking water, water for irrigation and for energy production in several communities nationwide. Many of the dams were at their minimum levels and now are back at levels where the water can be used. Rodriguez said last week's rains ended a long drought that had lasted over the Christmas holidays.
