A Russian man who tried to exchange fake US dollars in Higuey was arrested yesterday. Hoy reports that Timofey Voloshim, a 48-year-old Russian musician was arrested with 84 counterfeit US$100 bills when he tried to make a purchase. Hilario Done Ruiz, the owner of the Colmado Antonio in Villa Europa, alerted the authorities, and they surprised Voloshim by showing up and arresting him. They confiscated the fake US$8,400. He admitted using the money to pay for his living expenses. He was living in Veron, Punta Cana. The case is being investigated by the International Police (Interpol). He is expected to be arraigned at a court in Higuey. Hoy reports he is a well-known person in Veron. Recently the press reported of the case of another Russian, Dimitri Lopez Quintana who was arrested prior to taking a flight to Madrid, Spain from Punta Cana. There are direct flights from Moscow to Punta Cana International Airport.
