The Superintendent of Electricity has sent out a first draft of the tender sheet to the 19 electricity generators in the country. According to Listin Diario, the SIE intends to comply with Article110 of Law 125-01 that says that the electricity distributors must purchase their electricity through open bidding or tenders. For more than eight years this has been ignored or delayed despite the Consumer Rights Foundation's efforts in pushing for compliance. The first draft of the regulations sent to the electricity providers has 50 points, and number two says that the contracts for supplying electricity will be awarded following selection procedures that will guarantee transparency and objectivity and obtain tariffs that are economically efficient for consumers. Long-term energy contracts are covered in Law 125-01, but they have never been enforced.
