In response to the continuing fuel price increases, drivers and transport unions are now talking about more fare increases for 'publicos' and buses. Union representatives also went to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to request a freeze on fuel prices. The CNTU was joined by the National Tourism Federation as well as other institutions that are describing the unusually steep gasoline, diesel and propane price increases as "a sneaky blow" and "an abuse of power" by the authorities. According to El Nuevo Diario, the unions said that unless there is some sort of solution to these price increases, the only option for the transport sector would be to increase fares yet again.
