The Police are on the trail of Carlos David Garcia Rojas, a fugitive construction company messenger who disappeared after cashing a company check for RD$5.5 million. He had been instructed to deposit the money into the company bank account. A bank video, nevertheless, shows Garcia leaving the bank without carrying out the order.
Now Police reports say that Garcia could have spent more than RD$2.5 million in the week since he stole the money. Garcia has managed to evade persecution in the east, Santiago and Santo Domingo, as reported in El Dia.
The Police reported that his girlfriend Mary Carmen Lopez had received RD$730,000 in cash. Other people who have been arrested as accomplices were Carmen Raquel Garcia Rosado, Juan Carlos Lopez Perez, Esperanza Santana, Jose Miguel Rosado Perez and Enrique Leandro Rosado. Reportedly, Rojas Garcia purchased a gun, a SUV, a car and a moped and gave out almost RD$1 million in cash, all with the money he stole from the Grupo Caliche, Diseno, Ingenieria y Construccion.
The judge in charge of the case, Jose Alejandro Vargas has set the former messenger's girlfriend's bail at RD$300,000, and ordered the others to report to the court periodically.
