Margarita Copello, president of the Fundacion Sinfonia, the private organization that has supported the National Symphony Orchestra for many years, has been awarded the country's highest honor by the President. She received the Order of Merit Duarte, Sanchez and Mella, rank of knight at last night's opening of the Santo Domingo 8th Music Festival at the National Theater. The festival, which continues until March 12th, is one of the foundation's main achievements.
She received the honor from Vice President Rafael Alburquerque and Culture Minister Jose Rafael Lantigua. Minister of the Presidency Cesar Pina Toribio was also present.
As he presented the award, Lantigua stated the Festival organized by the Symphony Foundation is right up there with the best in Latin America.
