Baltimore Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon was granted bail in a controversial case after a shooting incident in which 25-year old Michel Castillo was killed and his brother Starling Castillo was injured. Bail was set at RD$2 million and he needs to present himself to court as required. His lawyers expect to get the court to absolve Simon on grounds that the prosecutors do not have the proof to incriminate him.
The police did not gather evidence at the crime scene, and Simon turned himself in three days later, presenting what he said was the gun he used to fire the shots "into the air" as claimed by his lawyers. Local reports speculate there was an out-of-court settlement with the relatives who no longer are pressing charges. The prosecutors need to present evidence for the case to be heard before 9 April, as reported in Hoy.

His lawyer, Carlos Olivares said that Simon is free to travel.
